1 Day Funzi Dhow

Pickup from Your Hotel (Diani or Mombasa South Coast)
Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or resort in Diani Beach. Enjoy a scenic coastal drive through villages and coconut plantations to Bodo Village, the dhow departure point to Funzi Island (about 45 minutes from Diani).

 Board Traditional Dhow at Bodo Jetty
Arrive at Bodo Jetty and board a traditional Swahili dhow, built entirely of wood and powered by sail or motor. Begin your cruise across the shimmering blue waters towards Funzi Island, passing through mangrove-lined channels rich in birdlife.

Mangrove River Cruise on the Ramisi River
Enjoy a relaxing boat ride along the Ramisi River, where you can spot kingfishers, herons, fish eagles, and sometimes even crocodiles basking along the riverbanks. The mangrove ecosystem is peaceful and scenic — a perfect spot for photography.

 Visit the Sandbank (Tidal Beach Stop)
When the tide is low, the dhow stops at a pristine white sandbank, where you can swim, relax, or walk barefoot on soft white sand surrounded by turquoise waters. This natural “beach in the sea” is one of the highlights of the trip.

Arrive at Funzi Island
Continue sailing to Funzi Island, a charming Swahili fishing village. Meet the locals and learn about their simple island lifestyle and traditional fishing practices.

Swahili Seafood Lunch
Enjoy a freshly prepared Swahili-style seafood lunch served under the shade of palm trees on Funzi Island. The menu typically includes crab, fish, coconut rice, and tropical fruits — with vegetarian options available upon request.

 Relax or Explore the Island
After lunch, you may relax by the beach, take a short walk around the island, or enjoy another short dhow ride before heading back to the mainland.

 Return Cruise to Bodo Jetty
Board your dhow and sail leisurely back to Bodo Village, enjoying the ocean breeze and last scenic views of the mangrove coastline.

Drive Back to Your Hotel
Arrive back at Bodo, disembark, and meet your driver for the return transfer to Diani or your Mombasa South Coast resort. Expected arrival around 5:00 PM.
